OKay, I might agree that to an outsider, that when a local Phoenix station breaks in with a Special Report because it is summer and it is raining, it would seem silly. Actually, that is one of the better uses of Breaking News, here in our valley of the sun.
I just am growing sick of the "News" using the "Breaking News" and "This just in" comments on every single thing they are reporting. This morning I heard "we have BRAND NEW recordings from the cockpit of the plane that went down in the Hudson", I waited and listened, and yep, the same exact recordings from all week long.
I mean, really, just because you haven't aired it on your Sunday News show before, doesn't make it BRAND NEW.
The same with local stories. Breaking news...."shots fired at blah, blah and blah!!!!, manhunt in the neighborhood", and it is the same exact story from the morning news, or the noon news, it was over HOURS ago, and they use the same exact tape of the reporter on the scene. (Notice how it is now dark outside the window, but the reporter is standing in the sunrise? Yep, I notice)
"New Information" this morning, on the octuplets mom... turned out to be what she told the Today show.
The "Latest" information on a teacher arrested, was nearly word for word from yesterdays newspaper.
I understand it is all about enticing people to watch each individual news cast, and some people may not have seen today's earlier program, but when "Breaking News" or " Brand New Information" is more then a few days old.... well, it's just deceptive. I may be the only one bothered by it, but I am weeding out TV news slowing but surely. I am not into the "fluff", either, I really don't want to hear, for the tenth time this week, how to save $4 on my grocery bill.
I guess I am just tired of the news.
